Libraries
In order to make knowledge accessible, Istanbul University organizes and continually updates its modern library system within the framework of the Central Library. Access to both new and ancient data begins at the faculty of origin for each student, and is furthered at the Central Library situated on the Beyazit Campus. The Rare Masterpieces and Museum Department of the Central Library, affiliated to the Directorate of Libraries and Documentation, is situated in a historic building on this campus.
The Istanbul University Central Library started to be computer backed after 1994, and, alongside the libraries of such units as faculties or libraries, has been equipped to serve both on a nationwide and international basis. Thus, the Library can now cater for other research units, whether local or overseas.
When users arrive at the Central Library, they can access the texts of publications prior to 1994 from catalogues, and newer publications from scanning catalogues through an electronic medium. If the text in question cannot be found at Istanbul University, specialized librarians will search for it in other libraries and have it dispatched.
Moreover, our university possesses faculty and college libraries accessible to students. Our faculties of longer standing, especially, have valuable collections of books available for the use of their students.
